Pilar Rodríguez Malley, a Colombian-born artist based in New York, has been working in pastels and acrylics for over 30 years. Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Pilar pursued art from an early age, studying with prestigious teachers such as David Manzur Londoño before moving to the US. Her vibrant and poignant pieces offer a window into Colombian culture, challenging perceptions and presenting heartfelt depictions of her "home."
Pilar's work is deeply personal, drawing inspiration from her family's history and her own experiences. Her paintings frequently feature coffee beans in their raw red form, landscapes from the outskirts of Bogotá, native fruits and plants, and intimate portraits of her loved ones. These subjects not only celebrate her heritage but also explore her evolving relationship with Colombia through her journeys between New York and Bogotá since the late 1980s.
This October, Pilar will present a solo exhibition at Framebridge in Bronxville. The retrospective show will include a selection of her works from the past three decades. The exhibition will also feature new pieces inspired by her recent travels to Colombia, bridging 30 years between her life there and her life here. The show will also highlight the Framebridge travel frame line and reflect how Pilar’s perspectives and ideas about Colombia have transformed over the years through her trips back and forth.
